There has been some major changes to the MOT system and rules in the last year,
We have now moved over to a website based MOT system so information is available on-line straight away.
The bad points – They introduced a new ruling that states you can’t drive a car that has failed the MOT on the road even if it has a time remaining on the current MOT – Please see this link (Click here for the Direct.Gov website)
Old wording:
Driving a vehicle that’s failed
You must not drive the vehicle on the road if it fails the test, even if the MOT hasn’t run out, except to:
- have the failed defects fixed
- a pre-arranged MOT test appointment

New wording (as of 7 December 2015)
Driving a vehicle that’s failed
You can take your vehicle away if your MOT certificate is still valid.
If your MOT has run out you can take your vehicle to:
- have the failed defects fixed
- a pre-arranged MOT test appointment
In both cases, your vehicle still needs to meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times or you can be fined.
